The Old Town is a charming historic centre of Rovinj and is probably the most appealing part of this stunning shell-shaped peninsula in the north of Croatia. This guardian of the past centuries reached his most powerful form as a medieval stone town, which used to protect its inhabitants from conquerors, whilst keeping the spirit of an old fishing village. Nowadays you can still see the remains of the walls and 3 of former 7 gates: The Gate of St. Benedict, The Portica and The Gate of the Holy Cross. Narrow alleys and straiways detangle by opening onto little squares and will easily transport you into another era.
